42: Coches Prietos
Santa Cruz Island, Channel Islands National Park, California (USA)
Coches Prietos lies on the backside (seaward) of Santa Cruz Island. The rocks extend outward from the point in a series of large boulders that are big enough to be called pinnacles that jut upward from a bottom depth of 40 feet to within 20 feet of the surface. The rocks are tumbled together to form multiple crevices, holes, and overhangs holding a variety of fishes and other creatures. Tucked away in the crevices are small lobster and their predator, the octopus. You’ll also find horn and swell sharks, calico bass and rockfish. Hovering over the reef are small sheephead, both female and male.

33: Middle reef and Hole in the Wall
Point Lobos, Monterey Bay, California (USA)
The Monterey Bay Sanctuary was created to protect one of the most spectacular and biodiverse underwater environment in the planet. A deep canyon was formed during the ice age, and got submerged at the end of it making it possible to reach open ocean depth close to shore. It attracts divers from around the world, lured by the unique beauty of the kelp forest and underwater canyon. Point Lobos is a natural preserve renown for its beauty. Few very coveted diving permits are available each year, and we manage to snatch some!

31: Pipeline
San Carlos Beach, Monterey Bay, California (USA)
The left side of the beach has a pipeline extending from the old foundations of a small building on the shore. If you follow the pipeline to the end and tour to the north there are fields of metridium anemones on small boulders (often referred to as a separate dive site called Metridium Field). Sea life is plentiful including Sea Otters, Harbor Seals, Sea Lions and a huge variety of other life commonly found in Monterey Bay.

18, 19: Breakwaters
San Carlos Beach, Monterey Bay, California (USA)
The Breakwater in Monterey is a well-known dive spot where many new divers complete their open water checkout dives – and for good reason. It’s well protected from ocean swells, making it possible to dive almost every day of the year. It’s gently sloping, sandy shoreline provides an easy entry and exit, and underwater, the slope continues a gradual descent to a maximum depth of 40-50 feet.

16: El Bajo
La Paz, Gulf of California, Baja Sur (MX)
Samount that rises from the ocean but not enough to stand out from the sea level. Its peak is 82ft / 25 meters deep into the surface. From its nature seamounts are very hospitable to marine life. Here you may have the possibility to see schools of hammerhead sharks, tuna and many other fish species. In addition, hopefully you will be able to observe whale sharks, marlins and giant manta rays.

14,15: McAbee Beach
Monterey Bay, California (USA)
One great dive is to head straight out till you get to about 40 feet. The visibility is better here, and you'll see occasional metridiums, juvenile wolf eels, and large fish. For a shallower dive, head out to about 30 feet, and turn towards the aquarium. In that direction the reef is very rugged with tall vertical faces. Expect Harbor Seal encounters.

The site has several collapsed lava tubes with lots of swim throughs and hiding spots for little critters if you take the time to search for them. The collapsed tubes proved excellent protection of the current and made it seem like you where swimming through a maze.
